Energy production, electricity consumption and total emissions in the Forssa region

Energy production in the Forssa region is estimated at 500 GWh/year. The electricity consumption in the Forssa region is about 507 GWh/year and total energy consumption is estimated at 2,053 GWh/year. The total emissions of the Forssa region in 2020 were 286 ktCO₂eq. The main sources of emissions were road transport, agriculture and energy production. Industry accounts for about 6% of total emissions.

If, for example, six (6) industrial-scale solar power plants were to be built in the Forssa region, electricity production could reach 770 GWh/year. This is equivalent to the electricity needs of around 13,000 electrically heated detached houses. There will soon be 16 wind turbines in operation in the Forssa region. Energy production in the Forssa region is estimated at 280 GWh/year. This is equivalent to the electricity needs of around 5,000 electrically heated detached houses. In addition, the potential for new wind power projects is high. According to the Häme regional plan's wind power report, up to 100 additional wind turbines could be built in the Forssa region (at 7 farms). Their theoretical electricity production could be around 2,803 GWh/year.

Other potential energy sources include geothermal energy and bioenergy. There is significant potential demand for locally produced biomethane, especially in high volumes in industry. The use of geothermal energy on a property-by-property basis is highly recommended.
